Ah, Lain, that would have been my second guss. The two protagonists look remarkably similar. Nothing to do with the fact that they are done by the same guy.

27-04-2013 18:36
It's Lain, but I can see why you would mistake her for Rakka. Like both of them.

Do I spy Haibane Renmei on this site??? (cough, cough) ElfKira (cough, cough). That's a good show.

ELF and its expansion to other anime (IMPORTANT)
ElfKira
The Raven wrote:

To me, this (though somewhat the exact opposite) reminds of Netflix's decision to make both Quickster and Netflix to separate online streaming from dvd rental. Thankfully Netflix reacted to customers desire to keep things simple on one site, and thus no changes were made.

Thankfully we will keep ourselves to one site, aswell.

Now you may find this example poor, but it does have a point: In my honest opinion, the exact opposite should be done with ELF. Yes, i understand there will be multiple sections on the site to cater to several more popular anime series and mangas, but this has always been an ELFEN LIED FANSITE. I feel it would be far better to make a separate site specifically for the purpose mentioned in this forum, while keeping this site the way it is.

The argument "this is an Elfen Lied Fansite" has been overly used and answered to. Again, a website of a specific anime can only last to a certain point, we think it's about time elf expanded.

What was it that led us all here in the first place? It wasn't Death Note, Hellsing, or any other anime, it was Elfen Lied. This site is the only place left on the internet where somebody can go and know 110% that they will find others who love the series just as much as they do. This place is a safe haven for all those who want a place to discuss EL as well as other animes/mangas to their hearts content, without the fear of being judged for what they enjoy. By making this a general site, you remove that safe haven many have sought and will continue to seek, and open the door to prejudice from all the EL nay-sayers out in the massive world of cyberspace.

This will still be a place people can be sure to find Elfen Lied fans.
Don't expect people hating on others tastes, prejudice has never been part of our community, staff is there to shape and guide members mentality and attitude within the community, respect is of major importance.

I understand the logistics of a new site being successful are very far-fetched as well, but I have a feeling well over 90% of the current ACTIVE members on this site would have absolutely no qualms about joining the other site as well. If a new site was created, it could even have a link posted on ELF.

Elfen Lied fans will stick to the website, new fans of other animes and of Elfen Lied will arrive. We only benefit from the interaction of anime fans with each other in diverse ways, the downs will be handled by the staff so they don't take part.

I know I'm not speaking only for myself when i say one of the main reasons i log on and spend hours on end on this site is because the close-knit community we have here. New members do not fade into a sea of other new members and are all welcomed with open arms by both administrators as well as general members. Yes, we really do not have any other options in terms of a website dedicated to Elfen Lied, but if the current community was not the way it was, that would matter little to me. I'd rather not join a site at all if the community were unpleasent or generally unwelcoming.

That's an assumption. We have no intention of changing the spirit of our community.
Pico feels prideful on the environment Elf has, how people are close, friendly and understanding to each other.
A big effort and huge attention will be given into this. We intend on receiving new members, and as I said before, shape and show how we want this community to function, and that is, how it works now but with more people.

Also, I understand internet traffic is important and i can see how this has a chance at POSSIBLY aiding Elfen Lied, but I feel the only benefit that will become of this change is more internet traffic. This traffic would be nice for the ELF and maybe help to garner the attention of the right people, but by becoming a general anime site, this attention is lost. Instead of noticing a spike in Elfen Lied interest, people will just notice another anime forum has sprung up. Whether the forum does well or not is not the point, for I can almost guarantee most (especially members who come after these changes) will not pay any mind to Elfen Lied, and stick to what they know or enjoy. That, and we all have seen the vast amount of negative criticism EL has gathered on the internet over time, so all it takes is some new forum-goer to google and find such a glutenous amount of negative critique to shy away from even viewing the episodes and forums affiliated with EL.

Outside people might not notice, but Elfen Lied fans within will. The number of topics, and the number of people, will make it much more enjoyable for everyone.
Never forget our main goal is to have the maximum number of people enjoying of our community, people from the outside can make all assumptions, as long as the people inside are having fun.

When I first came to this site, I remember posting for the first time and seeing all the responses from like-minded individuals, which still to this day baffles me at how polite and welcoming everyone has been. When i came to this site, Elfen Lied had been the only anime i had watched and enjoyed so thoroughly, and due to conversation with the community, i have discovered several others that I enjoy as well (though, in my eyes, nothing will ever compare to EL). I literally turn on my computer strictly for the purpose of getting on this site, and cannot wait to get home form school to see what new posts, members, fan-fictions, recommendations, etc. await me when i log on. I even log onto this site more than I do my own Facebook account.

Again, we will still be as friendly and make sure everyone is. There will be more Elfen Lied fans to talk to. A part of the site will be for Elfenlied and its fans, in no way will you feel alienated or disrespected, guaranteed.

We all came to this site with Elfen Lied at the forefront of our mind, with hopes of second seasons, re-boots, manga serialization, and various other wishes. Though all the former seem unlikely, I myself know I can come here to fantasize about these things coming true, as well as hear others with the same love and wants for EL, all while reading various fan fictions to whet my appetite (I'm sure we all remember keithallen's infamous 'favor' series).

Many will still come to discuss Elfen Lied, you will have literally ALL of that in the site.

Like the beautiful anime we all came here for, the Elfen Lied Fansite itself is a work or art as it is, boasting things no other forum on the internet could ever hope to boast. We have a community that genuinely cares for and is familiar with one another, both new members and old. We have administrators that openly interact with general members and give honest inputs rather than hiding behind their title of "admin" or "super admin" and using them to declare authority. We have the ability to converse with one another about anything our hearts desire in the comfort and safety of our own cyber safe haven. Most importantly, we have assembled a group of people that truly and genuinely love Elfen Lied with a passion so intense it baffles the nay-sayers, and, in some way, have experienced a some form of change in ourselves as a result of watching and/or reading Elfen lied. Let's face it, if this was not the case, then who among us would still be here?

First, thanks in the name of the Elf Staff, we appreciate!

Secondly, as I said before, we plan on maintaining the spirit of the community, a big effort will be put in order for the community to grow but the core of it to stay the same, and by core I mean the way interactions are made within here.

Elfen Lied is not just a show for me, it literally is my inspiration for so many things, from the music i write to the way i look at and treat others. While the characters and situations are fictional, the issues that are portrayed as well as the emotions exhibited throughout by both cast and viewer are as genuine as the medium you read or watch it on. Such emotion deserves to be preserved at the the forefront; such a community deserves to be kept in tact rather than being bloated to the point where it becomes a plethora of people who care for one another little.

I understand how much you love Elfen Lied. However, I don't understand your fear, nothing will be lost and Elfen Lied will still not only belong but have special attention from the site, you will be able to do everything you used to.

This is the last remaining english Elfen Lied Fansite, ladies and gentlemen, and the only site of its kind. As a result, i do not wish to see it loose its focus on what brought the site into existence in the first place: Elfen Lied.

Elfen Lied only has to win with the change.
The Elfen Lied Fansite is not a fortress whereas everything outside is evil.
We strongly believe the community only has to win by allowing more people in. (Reasons are stated throughout the post, as well as the thread)

Thank you for reading,
I love you all,

It's my duty and my pleasure to read and reply to members comments!
However, I got somewhat frustrated as more repeated arguments kept on appearing. It almost felt as if you posted without taking into consideration what had already been said in this thread.

On a side note to everyone else, please read others posts before making your own.

Here's the thing right now, I may be new here to ELF but I'm not new to forums at all. I used to be a very prominent member of MFG forums for about 5 years and it was very popular. Then around 2010 things started to change. Older members grew up and started going away, things became less active and soon due to many things including stuff with the administration, it eventually shut down.

MFG forums was once a very primary Dragon Ball related site but then it incorporated Bleach, Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist into its lists and became even more popular.

Here's the thing and I'm not trying to be mean because I obviously joined ELF too, but the Elfen Lied section of this site is...dying. Maybe before it twas very popular and did quite well but now a days like the General Dicussion area and just the Elfen Lied section as a whole has ust been slow. At best you might get one or two posts a day and even weeks will go by without any changes.

Fans of Elfen Lied or those who come primarily to the site for Elfen Lied are not going to be turned off when they see more manga/animes to discuss. I myself love Hellsing and Clannad and not only are both very popular, one of them is still ongoing.

If you want to have ELF remain as it is, you are going to have amp it up somehow. You're going to need to do something that's gets many people in going "Wow this is awesome!", so you don't have quite litterally a post a day at its best. I attempted to get the forum together in creating an Elfen Lied Visual Novel, I thought it would be a long yet extremely fun thing we as members could do to really bring Elfen Lied back since things like another anime didn't seem to be too close in the future.

Not much happened with responses to that.

Forumulas get old and they can get old quickly. Elfen Lied ended in 2004 and it hasn't changed one bit. Nothing has been added, nothing new was ever made. The only thing that changed was the OVA and that got old as well.

Hellsing has a manga that ran from 1998-2008, a 13 animated T.V. series and ongoing Hellsing OVAs. Eventually, unless it gets amped up and things added to it, it will eventually die down. It may always retain fans, but it will never be the same as it was before.

You can even look at Dragon Ball. It was created in the 1980s and yet still remains one of the most influential and popular Shounens. Even though its old, its still remained popular because its constantly spitting out merchandise. Along with the manga and episodes, you have tons of movies, tons of games, it's always kept up with the times and remained popular even after over 20 years.

Once again, people on here primarily for Elfen Lied are not going to be turned offwhen they see more things to talk about. It will actually be more beneficial because it will give people more to discuss popular things. What people will be turned off from is when they realize that their Elfen Lied section is dead with exceptions of one or two posts a day at best before deciding to just leave entirely.

Add some stuff, put more mangas/animes to discuss. Trust me when I say that it will not hurt ELF at all. It'll still be a primary EL fansite, but it will also have new aspects that people can enjoy.

Exactly Reric!

We basically want a community where everyone has the possibility to interact. Everyone has things to post, share, read, watch, etc. with others.

The main factor was always about the Elfen Lied related topics eventually running out.

They are small in the sense they are not commercial, we will not begin with big animes like e.g., Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Gintama, et cetera.

Though wouldn't Death Note be considered a commercial anime? It felt as though it was more advertised alongside animes like Naruto and Bleach. I heard and watched Death Note long before I discovered anime like Elfen Lied and Higurashi. Just wondering? Otherwise these are good choices to start with as they are popular with our current community.

Death Note is not commercial. It certainly is more popular than Higurashi or Elfen Lied, but honestly, Death Note is more popular than the majority.
But you can't really say it's a commercial, those are filled up with a lot of fillers and usually surpass the 400 episodes, with only 36 Death Note is far away from that.

i know ive already posted here.. but meh...

Raven.. i hear you bro.. truly i do.. everything you put in that last post.. when ifirst found out about the change.. i totally was with you...

But before i posted in this thread i got off the pc.. got in bed to sleep.. and thought.. a good old think..

And as sad as it will be to see the transition.. of the thing we love evolving.. it is for the better... more people, bigger community.. like i said in my post.. thew site has been dying for quite some time...

but you are right.. flamers may be a potential problem... i mean we just have to make sure that we stay as one community and dont end up as 4 or 5 smaller divided communities based on what are favorite anime is

And im lovin the new domain name <333

And in my opinion.. death note is well known.. i mea here in the uk.. most people who have seen any anime have seen or at least checked out death note... but it was just like a one hit wonder.. less than 40 episodes of pure genius.. but its got shit on narutos fanbase :L

To Kira, i thank you for reading and replying to my post, though it was rather lengthy. I did read the other posts and took into consideration i was repeating to some degree the feelings of several others, but in all fairness to myself, those were my feelings as well. Whether or not they were posted prior should have no bearing, as they are 100% my own voice, though the opinions contained in it are similar to those discussed by others. I apologize for any irritation this may have caused you, but i felt every word, for me at least, was essential. I have given it some thought, and your replies, though i sense some frustration in them, have somewhat eased my mind. I by no means am stating that i am completely in love with this idea, but i do however refuse to remain quietly submissive. I will, as the very trite saying goes, "go with the flow" for the time being, for, who knows, once everything is up and running this may be wonderful. Just because of my personality, i do still remain somewhat cautious and will treat the site with the love and respect i always have.

Gnasher, I've been thinking too, about your post mosty, and that is the other part of my reasoning for being so willing to test the waters of change. Tbh, i tend to despise massive changes, mostly due to the fact that literally every change in my own life has been for the worse. Thank you as well for helping me in somewhat allowing the light to begin working its way into my eyes.

You guys are both still awesome and again, I apologize for the frustration my post caused, though I did and do mean every word, and cannot apologize for that.

I really do love all you guys, and i hope those who read do not see what i said as a lack of faith in the strength of our community, for the love and appreciation i have for it is quite the opposite. I have an undying faith in this site's community and administration, and can't wait to see thing up and running completely Smile

dude think nothing of it ^^ its more time that does it than anything.. i just suggested you let time do its thing :3

and thats fair enough... change can be really bad.. horrrible even sometimes.. but other times its wonderful.. like the transition from being alone to being married for example :L

also

in my eyes your post caused no frustation.. not to me anyway.. everyone has an opinion and with it.. the right to express it ^^

Love you bro <3333

Well after debating with myself, I fully accept this change to the site, as long as the origins are clear and you can have EL as a theme, I am completely satisfied with the change, but despite the fact I haven't been here long, I will miss the old one. All good things change eventually right? Frown

^^^I think I fully accept it as well. Now that we're starting to see some progress on these new changes, I'm looking forward to when everything is finished!
